For this project we worked in groups with 2-3 people in them. We were creating mobiles that connected to a country of our choice. My group included myself, Ian, and Josh. We chose the Sami people from the Sapmi region and we had a great time learning about them. As a group, we sometimes struggled to collaborate, this was due to the fact that Ian was sick for a long part of the project, and Josh was unmotivated for the project. We eventually created a product I am very happy about, but we had to be given work extra time to be able to complete our mobile. At the end of this project we really came together as a team, an I was able to find ways to motivate and help out my team. Overall, I did some very hard work and quality work during this project. Next time, I feel like I could be a little more motivational to the group and realize that I need to be a great leader and get the best out of my group members.
In humanities I feel like I developed a passion for discovering new things about different cultures. Every place has its own geography, culture, religion, and so much more. I really enjoyed hearing myths from different cultures and I also really enjoyed learning about the Sami People. We connected the Sami people to our mobile, and each of our 9 panels connects the the Sami and one of their myths, which is The Fox and the Lapp. I used a lot of new types of thinking in this project, I realized that you can discover and learn so much new stuff about a place based on it's culture/stories.
In physics we learned a lot of new things, the main thing we learned was how to calculate Torque. I learned that on a mobile the total force of the mobile pulling clockwise has to equal the force going counterclockwise. I used these calculations to help with my mobile and I used this to find distance and weight. I also learned how to calculate tension and convert units. I am starting to think differently, and I look at things with some of the force knowledge I have gained. I used math a lot in this project too, I was making tons of calculations and I think I really understand Torque.
In Egineering I learned a lot of different things about myself and about using the makerspace. I learned how to use many tools, such as clamps, jigsaws, hole saws, and the scroll saw. Also, I gained a lot with my fine motor skills while painting and drawing on the panels. Also, I learned more physics and ways to approach and draw diagrams for torque.
The exhibition was really enjoyable too. Ian and I presented our mobile and story to an entire 3rd grade class. They liked out story and our mobile, but they were most interested in us and asked us a lot of questions. I think I had a lot to offer to the group and I would say I held the team together I think I did a really good job with the learning outcomes in this project and I would grade myself high on it. I did specifically good in work ethic as I kept trying and trying to establish equillibrium. I would say I could work a little on collaboration because I didn't get the very nest I could've out of my partners, but I think I did a really good job on the learning outcomes. I also demonstrated the class values very well and I think I was an ideal student during this project. Overall, this project was a very fun challenge that helped me grow a lot.
