10th grade college road trip
For Sophmore year at High Tech High North County students go on a college road trip across California. This year, It was 3 days long and we visited 4 different colleges. These colleges were UC Santa Barbara, Santa Clara University, UC Santa Cruz, and Cal Poly SLO. It was an awesome experience that allowed me to discover colleges that I might be interested in and the requirements to be admitted to these schools.
In my opinion, when you visit a college it is hard not to fall in love with it at least a little bit. At each school, I felt like I could see myself going there and enjoying that environment. UC Santa Barbara had a very fast-paced vibe with lots of bike paths and great D1 sports. It had a really good academics, sports, location, and had a great feel overall. Santa Clara University had a way different vibe. It had a more religious and serious vibe, but it had great academics, sports, and location as well. One of the major pros about Santa Clara was that it is located in silicon valley so coming out of college job opportunities would be plentiful, but the school was very expensive. UC Santa Cruz had a beautiful massive campus in the middle of a forest with a chill vibe, the academics weren't as prestigious but I could definitely see myself there. Finally, we have CAL Poly SLO. This school really stood out to be because of the project based style and incredible campus
After this trip, I don't think there's a chance I go to a college outside of California. There are so many great options in California. Overall, I loved all the colleges we visited and the college road trip was a great experience.
