Artist Statement
I value humor, companionship and intelligence. I value these traits because they make a warm and funny person to be around, and a person who can be successful. These are values that I strive to show every day, and things that I think I'm pretty good at. To represent these values, I decided to shoot a music video called Guspacito. This video is a remix of the popular song "despacito" by Justin Bieber. I think it creates a funny and warm humor that goes along with my humor value. The lyrics are well thought out and written in Spanish to accompany the rhythm. In general, this video represents my values in a fun and different way, and I am very proud of the piece I created.
Project Reflection
1. Overall, I think that my project was a very great piece of work. I feel that I represented Humor, Companionship, and Intelligence very well, with funny and original images. My video was edited very well and the song was well received with original lyrics. I worked very hard to make this piece of work great, and I am super proud of it.
2. Even though I loved my project, I acknowledge that my work can always be better. After receiving a lot of feedback, mostly positive, one thing I think could be better was the timing of the singing to music. I spent a lot of time working on the timing, and it wasn’t bad, but I feel It could’ve been timed better at some points. Also, I think I could’ve done a better job reading/pronouncing my artist statement in front of the class. So, If I had to improve one area of my project it would definitely be the artist statement presentation and the timing of the music/singing.
3. The most significant part of this project had to be the presentation of Guspacito. Seeing the reactions on my classmate's faces, my friends outside of school, and the joy that it brought to the class confirmed that I had made a great piece of work. One of the primary goals for the project was to make a piece of work my friends could look at and got a good laugh from, and I think that I definitely succeeded in that part of the project.
4. I wouldn’t do anything differently in this project. As I already mentioned, my goal was to represent my values in a funny and meaningful way, and I think I did that very well. If I were to go back to the beginning of the project and see my final product, I think that I exceeded expectations. Overall, I am very proud of this project.
5. Over the course of this project, I have grown so much. I think that the biggest area I have grown in is probably pronunciation. During the Guspacito video, and during the artist statement presentation, I think I had much better pronunciation than at the very beginning of the year. Finally, I think I have grown in vulnerability. I think this because I opened up to the class, and shared many personal values and ideas. This is important to me because vulnerability is one thing I have struggled with in the past, and I am proud to show some growth.
